About the event
Learn how to turn locally sourced wool into your own hand-spun yarn using a drop spindle. It’s a wonderful and meditative craft perfect for fiber lovers of any kind. Participants will learn what makes wool such a special fiber, as well as the tools and techniques that turn a sheep’s fleece into spun yarn.
All materials included. Drop spindles available for purchase at the end of class for $10.
Light snacks and refreshments provided.
Julia Hames is a painter, educator, material researcher, and gardener. Her practice revolves around a sensitivity to the natural world, experimenting with pigments, dyes, biomaterials, and fibers. She has led workshops on spinning and wool processing at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, RISD Nature Lab, Lentol Garden, Sustainable Cape, and Studio Claudy Jongstra.
