Folk Candlesticks - Guest Teacher

In this hands-on ceramics workshop, you’ll design and build a set of two folk-inspired candlesticks using traditional hand-building techniques.

Time & Location

Jan 27, 2026, 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Craft Society, 569 Union St, Brooklyn, NY 11215, USA

About the event

Drawing from simple forms, symbolism, and playful ornamentation, we’ll explore how functional objects can also feel personal, sculptural, and story-driven. You’ll learn methods like pinching, coil-building, and slab construction, with guidance on balance, proportion, and creating stable candle wells. We’ll also cover surface decoration using texture, carving, and underglaze details to give your candlesticks their own character. No prior ceramics experience is required! All materials, glazing, and kiln firings are included, and your finished candlesticks will be glazed and fired after the workshop, ready for pickup once complete. Expect to leave with a cohesive pair of functional, one-of-a-kind ceramic objects made entirely by hand.
